ON LOAN The Hope diamond, was acquired by King Louis XIV in 1668. It was worn 120 years later by Marie Antoinette and it now resides in the Smithsonian Institution. Cartier bought the diamond at auction and actor Richard Burton bought the stone the very next day for his wife, Liz Taylor, an avid fan of diamond jewelry.
